Quebec has some 500,000 lakes which cover 12 percent of its surface area. Most are located in regions that are difficult to access and remain protected from human activities. Conversely, the fragile ecosystems of those located near urban areas are subject to increasing pressure, especially with the enthusiasm for returning to nature caused by the pandemic.
